Tungro virus

  • The disease appears both in nursery and main field.

  • Disease causes severe stunting.

  • Reduced tillering.

  • Yellow to orange discolouration and intervenal chlorosis.

  • Twisting of the leaf tips.

  • Presence of the green leaf hoppers.

Management practices


Use of resistant varieties like Nidhi and Vikramarya.

Cultural Practices


Control the leafhoppers by spraying the following chemicals:

  • Carbofuran 3G (10 kg/acre),

  • Etofenprox (1.5 ml/l),

  • Fipronil 0.36G (10 kg/acre),

  • Phosphamidon (1.5 ml/l),

  • Imidacloprid (0.5ml/l) and

  • Remove and destroy the infected stubbles.
