About us

ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research is a premier rice institute that aims to develop technologies to enhance rice productivity, resource and input use efficiency, and profitability in rice cultivation without adverse effects on the environment. Our mandate includes

1) Basic and strategic research for enhancing rice productivity under irrigated ecosystems,

2) Coordination of multi-location testing to develop location-specific varieties and technologies for various ecosystems

3) Dissemination of technologies, capacity building and establishing linkages.

Rice is one of the most important food crops in India. Every year, rice insect pests and diseases cause huge losses of yields, which are a threat to food and livelihood security. Weather conditions under climate change play a major role in pest population abundance resulting in huge losses. Therefore, real-time and accurate forecasting of insect pests and diseases is very important for taking up timely IPM practices for their effective management.

The Rice Pest Pheno-forecasting Portal aims to provide information about insect pests and diseases of rice including life cycle, distribution, damage symptoms and management options along with pheno-forecast maps of major insect pests and diseases.
