Rice Pest Pheno - Forecasting Portal

Sheath blight

  • The diseases generally appears at the maximum tillering stage.

  • Initial symptoms appears on leaf sheaths as lesions and several of such lesions coalesce with each other and (resembles snake-skin) causes death of all leaf sheaths and entire plant.

  • These spots do not occur on a regular pattern.

Management practices

keep the field free from weeds (collateral hosts). Remove and destroy the weed hosts in the field bunds and channels.

Apply recommended dose of nitrogen into 3 to 4 of splits.

Usually initial and typical symptoms will appear on the self-sown rice plants. Then spray proper fungicide to restrict further spread of the disease.

When there is 5-10% damage or 10% infected tillers/1 sq.meter, spray the following chemicals once in 15 days (first dose from 45 to 50 days and second dose from 65 to 75 days).

  • Validamycin 3L (2.0 ml/l),

  • Hexaconazole 5 EC (2.0 ml/l) and

  • Propiconazole 25 EC (1 ml/l)
